The Iranian fishing vessel Al Qamar 786 had approximately 17 crew members on board. The nine armed pirates took control of the ship. The Pakistani crew was safely rescued after INS Sumitra intercepted the ship.

The latest incident comes after Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched a series of attacks on cargo ships and other critical trade routes in the Red Sea. This operation involved two Indian Navy warships and specially trained Navy commandos. The Indian Navy has received a lot of praise for rescuing the hijacked passengers.
